The Vicandas approach to intervention
Intervention with Vicandas is based around three core assumptions:
Effective interventions are tailored to the needs of the individual or family
Although different therapeutic approaches share certain key principles and specific strategies may work for many people, at Vicandas, we do not believe that one size fits all. Our approach starts with understanding what is going on for you and developing an intervention that will address your concerns and will work for you.
Effective interventions need to involve everyone
We know how difficult it is to make changes when you are doing it on your own. This is because we are in constant interaction with the people around us: our families, friends, neighbours, teachers, work colleagues and many more. The way they interact with us shapes our behaviour, our communication and our emotions. So, if they do not change, then neither will we, despite our best efforts. At Vicandas, we think from the beginning about involving others and recruiting support.
Brief professional involvement can result in long-term change
We do not believe that families or individuals need long-term therapy in order to achieve sustainable change. In fact, sometimes the opposite is true. It is the client who makes the change, not the clinician. Most of the time, as long as the client is given the right tools to understand and adapt to the problems that they face, they do not need extensive and expensive input from clinical professionals.
Family support with Vicandas
At Vicandas we offer a four-week intervention package, which includes weekly online sessions appointments supported by additional text and e-mail contacts. We think that this is the perfect treatment length to give families the skills and understanding they need to make lasting improvements to their lives without using up too much of their precious time. We do not expect everything to be perfect at the end of these four weeks, but we can be confident that they know how to take their knowledge forward, to continue to achieve positive and lasting change.
All interventions include the following:
- Understanding the problem (based on your Vicandas Psychology neurodiversity assessment results)
- Understanding your skills strengths and resources
- Getting family, friends and professionals involved
- Assessing, prioritising and developing strategies to overcome challenges
- Reviewing progress and fine-tuning
- Planning for a positive future
